Does this actually have a shot at getting made because it doesn't look hopeful at getting made

So, the film's been out for a good while now, what's the general consensus, good or bad?

More on the Stage Play in Bath
The Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News has released a report of the stage play 'His Dark Materials' which is being preformed in the Theatre Royal Bath and has also released a picture of the young people playing everyone's favourites Lyra and Will. (A picture of the couple can be seen in our galleries) The full report can be found here:
http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/disp...

The paper reports:
'His Dark Materials takes audiences on a thrilling journey through worlds familiar and unknown in a story of courage and humanity, about a boy and a girl with a destiny to fulfil.

For the two central characters, Lyra and Will, it is a transforming experience. Their great quest demands a savage struggle against the most dangerous of enemies. They encounter fantastical creatures in parallel worlds - rebellious angels, soul-eating spectres, child-catching gobblers and the armoured bears and witch-clans of the Arctic.

...

The role of Lyra is played by three actresses; Leah Elston-Thompson 13, Caitlin Lees-Massey, 16, and Bethany Hocken, 18. Will is played by Jonathan Chorley, 15, and Theo Boyce, 17.'

The play will be preformed each day in two parts from Sunday 13th April to Sunday 20th April.

Book of Dust gets underway soon?
Philip Pullman is doing the rounds this week publicising his new book 'Once Upon A Time in the North' about the meeting of Lee Scorcesby and Iorek Byrnison. In an interview with Publisher's Weekly (the entire interview can be found here: http://www.publishersweekly.com/arti... ) he discussed about returning to our favourite character Lyra once again, with the long awaited 'Book of Dust'. Pullman talked of when he would begin to write the novel:

"The Book of Dust has had numerous hold-ups, principally because of the other things people keep asking me to do that prevent me from being single-minded about it...When I’ve finished the story I’m writing for the comic, I’ll say no to everything else. I wonder how many times I’ve said that now...."

For those who don't know what this book contains, Pullman himself fills you in:

"It’s another novel. It’s set rather later, after Lyra’s Oxford, when Lyra is a bit older. There’s a little hint about what Lyra is doing later on. I wanted to bring Lyra in tangentially at the end...I’ve got my hands full with Lyra for the next two or three years."

We still hope this involves meeting Will once again... please?

And yeah, if it was Tony in the fishouse, the veiwers wouldn't have any emotional attachment to him, so that would probably be better to stick with Billy.

I agree with what you said, anyway, even if some of the facts were wrong, it's still a good film :) !!

... throughout the film (yeah I'm continuing on from last post!) Visually the battle at the end worked better. The main failings of The Golden Compass was not how it changed factors of the book it was in its lack of depth and of course the ending being cut off, what were they thinking. It looks as if they just ran out of film and stopped, the ending would have improved it. It's not a bad film but it really doesn't do the atmosphere and the tone of 'Northern Lights' any justice. It should have been darker as the novel was. People who hadn't read the book simply thought- what was the point! Rant over

the whole Roger end was filmed and you can see parts of it in the trailer and in the video game, it was just editied out because of stupid New Line didn't want the movie to end on a low point. But the other arguments you're making weren't the factors that made the movie bad. For starters things like morphing Tony and Billy into the same person was fine, time constraints meant that to put both characters in would have diluted the emotional attachment you felt with them and would have added too many people to the Bolvangar kidnap. It made sense. Keep in mind literature and film are two very different artforms. the story needs to be kept to a confined time of 2 hours. You CANNOT put everything from the book in there and besides if you did what would be the need for the book, film adaptations are NOT about recreating a book, but adapting it into another art form. Also structure wise it made sense that the climax would be to retrieve the children from Bolvangar as its the goal of Lyra...

Well they should have stuck to the book more in my opinion, although it is a pretty good movie. I agree, what about Roger's death? And did you also notice that boy in the fish house is actually Tony Makarious (not Billy Costa).

i just hate hollywood pieces of crap like that movie. they didnt stick to the story! what ever happend to rogers death? and there was a big timeline change concerning the bolvangar children's release and the iorek kingship fight.
